Lamborghini is a very special brand.
The Raging Bull.
If Lamborghini could, they would put lasers and gun turrets on all their cars.
This is because Lamborghini is run by a bunch of grown-up children.
And that’s what makes them so brilliant.
Every Lamborghini to roll off the production line is phenomenal in its own way, but only one can be the golden boy. The greatest of them all.
The Lamborghini Aventador.
The Aventador holds a special place in my heart.
I was introduced to it by Richard Hammond of Top Gear many years ago, and it was love at first sight.
It looked like something from the year 3000.
It screamed like a banshee.
And it tore across the tarmac like a bat out of hell.
The Aventador was the embodiment of Lamborghini, the essence of the brand brought to life.
It was everything the Raging Bull stood for.
In a time when companies were moving to smaller, turbocharged, more efficient, and economical engines, the Aventador was stubborn. It refused. Instead, it turned up with a 6.5L naturally aspirated V12.
It wasn’t the fastest around the corners.
Nor was it fastest in a straight line.
It had an unrefined single-clutch gearbox that tried to kick your spine out of your chest anytime you wanted to change gear.
It could hardly carry a handbag, let alone groceries.
And being Italian, It had a million electrical issues.
But none of it mattered.
When you put your foot down, 690 exotic horses sprung to life and a glorious V12 symphony made it all obsolete.
It spit flames from the exhaust.
It shattered ear drums.
It woke up in a red rage.
The Aventador was unapologetic. It was the perfect blend of what a Lamborghini should be.
Loud, beautiful, raw, and full of soul and emotion.
It was the last true Raging Bull.
It got its final send-off this year in the form of the Aventador Ultimae.
Today, the Aventador is a dinosaur among the 1000hp electric family cars and the 2L 4-cylinder engines that are so common.
But let it be a reminder to you and I.
Of what once was.
A ballad of internal combustion, tire screech, fury, and Italian flashiness.
A purebred Raging Bull.
A Lamborghini.
